Thrive’s forensics program integrates our Certified Peer Recovery Supporters into correctional facility settings to motivate, instill hope, and inspire change both during incarceration and upon release. In addition to having lived experience with substance use and mental health recovery, our Peer Supporters have the shared experience of having been involved with the criminal justice system. Thrive aims to meet individuals at the critical juncture of incarceration prior to release to build a relationship that will aid in successful reentry to the community. Individuals who are transitioning from incarceration to the community setting face significant challenges in accessing necessary resources for success. By preparing individuals for release while in the jail setting, peer support activities involve planning and resource identification to ensure a smooth transition to a recovery community upon release. For those on probation or parole, support in learning to balance recovery and community resources with the provisions of their probation or parole can be helpful.
