Thrive’s Justice Involved Peer Support programming is specifically designed to address the unique needs of individuals within the criminal justice system who are living with behavioral health challenges. This program aims to enhance the effectiveness of criminal justice strategies focused on reducing involvement and recidivism in local courts, county jails, and the state and federal prison system.
Activities: The program’s activities are structured to offer comprehensive support at various stages of the criminal justice process, including:
- Integrating peer supporters into criminal justice settings to offer immediate and continuous support to individuals with behavioral health needs.
- Providing one-on-one peer support sessions that focus on recovery, coping strategies, and preparation for reintegration into the community.
- Facilitating connections to behavioral health services, both within the criminal justice system and in community settings, to ensure a seamless transition and continuity of care.
- Offering guidance and support in navigating the challenges of reentry, including finding housing, employment, and continuing education.
- Working collaboratively with legal and criminal justice professionals to advocate for the needs and rights of justice-involved individuals, aiming to secure outcomes that support their recovery and reintegration.
National Leadership and Best Practices
Thrive is also a proud member of All Rise, the National Association of Drug Court Professionals. This membership grants us access to the latest research and expert guidance on best practices in treatment courts across the country. One of the key recommendations from All Rise is the inclusion of peer support workers on treatment court teams, a practice Thrive actively incorporates. By staying connected to these national standards, Thrive ensures its peer support programming remains cutting-edge and effective.
CTP Reentry Program
Thrive’s Community Transition Program aims to meet individuals at the critical juncture of incarceration before release to build a relationship that will aid in successful reentry to the community. Individuals who are transitioning from incarceration to the community setting face significant challenges in accessing the necessary resources for success. Working alongside OhioMHAS and ODRC, Thrive prepares individuals for release while in the jail setting. Peer support activities involve planning and resource identification to ensure a smooth transition to a recovery community upon release.
Why Community Transitional Program?
The goal is to assist with successful transitions at utilizing CTP funding in partnership with local recovery boards. We can help with the following:
- Successful engagement with identified individuals
- Successful gap closures based on individualized needs assessment
- Connection to ongoing care: Primary Healthcare, General physical, MH or SUD
In 2023
Thrive supported over 300 individuals in the criminal justice system, during incarceration, upon release, or through treatment courts.
Adult Drug Court
Thrive’s Adult Drug Court Peer Support programming supports offenders participating in the Court’s Adult Drug Court dockets. By providing peer recovery support services, Thrive addresses the significant challenges these individuals face in accessing necessary resources for successful reentry into the community. Certified Peer Supporters from Thrive offer one-to-one care, fostering trusting relationships, and providing comprehensive, evidence-based assistance. This program, in collaboration with the Cuyahoga County Corrections Planning Board and the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court, aims to change offenders’ antisocial attitudes and behaviors and guide them through the recovery process with compassion and continuity.
In 2023
